ZOMG! I WON SOMETHING!

Liebster Award

Wow! I actually got nominated for something, twice!

Thanks to Mona at Panic and the Pony for nominating me.  Her blog is super fun (and her pony might be Joy's secret twin) so check it out.

Thanks also to My Equine Odyssey for the second nomination, I'm answering your questions too because I'm cool like that.

Okay, here's the contest stuff:

HOW TO ACCEPT THE AWARD: The Liebster Blog Award is a way to recognize blogs who have less than 200 followers.  Liebster is a German word that means beloved and valued.  Here are the rules for accepting the award:

  2. List 11 random facts about yourself.
  3. Answer the 11 questions given to you.
  4. Create 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate.
  5. Choose 11 bloggers with 200 or fewer followers to nominate and include links to their blogs.
  6. Go to each blogger's page and let them know you have nominated them.
Here goes!

Eleven Random Facts about me

1. I'm not even going to admit how long it took me to complete this post. 99% of my Internet time takes place with the baby on my boob so forgive the typos.

2. I'm super introspective, a lot more than people think I am. Probably because I'm really impulsive. So it is a good thing for me to reflect on what I do/say since there is usually some underlying reason for it.

3. I think cleaning is really boring and I'm amazingly good at avoiding it, although I like cleaning tack.

4. I'm a super crunchy mama but so far my baby is turning out okay. By crunchy I mean cloth diapering, breastfeeding, baby wearing, totally hippy mama.

5. I have a huge sugar addiction, I'm currently trying really hard to eat well and not consume all the sweet things. I come by it honest, my Dad eats more sugar than anyone else, ever.

6.I read more than anyone else I know, despite having a demanding toddler. I also obsessively research things I'm obsessed with, my husband calls me Hermione.

7.I have a huge lingerie addiction and if we didn't have horses I would have alllllll the pretty bras. Champagne tastes and all that. I love window shopping and reading the lingerie addict

8. I really love impractical and beautiful things. and glitter. and baking. and bunnies.

9. I secretly want to breed Joy, even though there is a huge horse over population and it doesn't make any sense from a practical standpoint. I don't even know what I would breed her to.

10. When I get bored (like when I worked in retail) I like to do random things like crawl into large live traps and pretend to be a wolverine.

11.  I really believe in there being a soul connection with horses, I think it makes the difference between riding a horse and having a partnership.
Questions from Panic and the Pony

1.  Were horses in your childhood?
Yup, and likely kept me out of lots of trouble. I started riding at age 5 when we lived in New Zealand, where I learned how to fall off (and get back on!) I rode a lot as a kid, memorable lesson horses were Scatman and Dude and my first horse was a totally untrained Mustang named Blaze.

Awful pic of me jumping with Scatman, I was around age 12 and he was at least double that.

2.  What's the weirdest lesson/clinic you've ever had on horseback?
I really can't think of one, most of my clinics and lessons have been good. I have taken a couple that were things I didn't want to repeat, but not weird. My worst time teaching a lesson is when this lady called me up to "help her" start her Friesan mare, the lady just wanted to prove she was a better trainer than me because I had successfully helped a horse she had caused issues with, she was an abusive idiot and it was an awful experience.

3.  What one thing would you change about your horse?
Make her a smidge more patient, I like the responsiveness but she has so little patience for anything and that can be challenging.

4.  What one thing would you change about yourself?
Make her a smidge more patient, lol. Actually I would love to more flexible without having to do something horrible like stretch.

5.  Do you board or keep your horse at home?

My girls are at home, which I love since I can wander over to the paddock and give scritches whenever I want. Sometimes it was easier to find time to ride when I boarded because once you got to the barn you would ride because you were there, at home it is easy to get distracted by projects.

6.  What is your favorite thing about boarding or keeping your horse at home?
Absolutely being able to go play with them anytime I want, There is a lot to be said for just walking down to the field with some carrots and giving scritches. Plus you can be really anal about feeding and such without bothering anyone (except your husband, who wonders why it takes you ten minutes to mix up feed for two horses)

7.  What is your least favorite thing about boarding or keeping your horse at home?
Worrying about things like broken fences and not having company, I've boarded with some great people and it was nice to go to the barn and visit with friends. I'm envious of my horsie friends who have a great barn community because I feel like I am over here plugging at it alone.

8.  What nicknames do you have for your horse?
Bunny, spazz, Miss Joy, Super Bitch, Princess, Lovey

9.  What scares you the most about riding/horses?
Nothing, I know it is a dangerous sport but fear doesn't really enter into it. I don't get on a horse I don't feel okay riding and I know accidents happen even on "safe horses" but I don't really dwell on it. Lots of things in life are scary.

10.  What is your best skill around horses?
My intuition and no-nonsense approach.

11.  What is your dream pony vacation?

Any vacation would be dreaming, lol. I would love to go fox hunting in Ireland but not sure my hubby would want to come.

Annnnnd the questions from Equine Odyssey

1) What is your dream job?
Exactly what I'm doing now but getting paid oodles for it. Actually I really miss teaching beginner lessons and training other people's horses. I would love to have my own barn.

2) How old were you when you started riding?
5ish, I was titchy. My first pony ride was on a Shetland named Tuppence, cutest thing ever!

3) What has been your biggest success?
So far in life, having Smooshy, I do good work. In horses it would lots of little successes in helping people and their horses communicate better.

4) What has been your biggest challenge?
Lack of finances, it forces me to be creative for sure! Also Joy, she is a difficult and complicated beast but has pushed my skills as a trainer and rider.

5) How do you stay fit for riding?
By riding, actually this has been something I am thinking about now since I had Smooshy and am not riding multiple hours a day. I try to do some yoga or Pilates everyday and go walking/running several times a week.

6) Treats or No Treats?
Treats for horses or me? hah. Treats for horses as long as they are polite about it, treats for me... always.

7) How do you support your horse habit?
Currently my long suffering hubby does, as I'm rocking the stay at home mom thing but I do my best to keep costs down.

8) What is your favorite helmet, and why?
Tipperary Sportage, I forget it is on, for a helmet that is awesome.
